Course Objectives
This is a stand alone course which covers the basic principles of manual handling, including risk assessment.
Manual Handling (principles of) Course Content
Generally the course covers:
• Regulations, practice and responsibility
• Spinal anatomy and relating injuries
• Risk assessment and risk reduction
• Basic rules and practice
• Planning
• Risk assessment in the workplace
• Optional employers supplement
Who should attend
The course is intended for any person carrying out manual handling operations. Although a St john Ambulance Course, it is not intended to address the particular hazards involved with either casualty or patient handling but is directly intended to address the principles of all kinds of manual handling. It is the employers responsibility to ensure that persons selected to be trained are free from any condition which would affect their ability to deal with manual handling requirements. Candidates must be aged 10 years and over.
Assessment
The course is run by a registered trainer with St John Ambulance.
There is no formal examination and the trainer will issue a certificate of training if demonstrated to the required standard.

Maximum Trainees: 12
