Training Course Objectives
To achieve accreditation as required by the NRSWA in Streetworks, Excavation and Reinstatement of the standards prescribed by City and Guild's of London..
New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 Course Content
Unit 001 Avoidance of underground apparatus, plans, diagrams, apparatus, use of equipment.
Unit 002 Signing, lighting and guarding, code of practice, co-ordination, procedures.
Unit 003 Excavation in the Highway. Road types, materials, specifications and techniques.
Unit 004 Reinstatement and compaction of backfill.
Unit 005 Reinstatement of sub-base and road base in non-bituminous materials. Road types, specification, material types.
Unit 006 Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials. Types of materials. Specification, laying practices.
Unit 007 Reinstatement of hot lay bituminous material.
Unit 008 Reinstatement of concrete slabs (rigid carriageways).
Unit 009 Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.
Who should attend
Operatives. Supervisors are able to attend a supervisory level course which can be taught in conjunction with the operatives course.
Assessment
The delegate will have to demonstrate competence by undertaking practical exercises related to the unit that is being assessed, e.g. for unit 3 excavation, the delegate will have to dig a hole of the required size in such a way that meets the requirements of the specification and that shows safe working methods. THE delegate will also have to answer correctly a few brief questions to prove competence in the subject. The course will presume that the candidates have experience of excavation and reinstatement in the highway.
